I'm glad we share similar feelings about this; Ben Folds has his moments...but they seem to come less often lately.
You summed up my feelings in your last paragraph -
"having a good time at the expense of creating something a little more meaningful, relevant, and...mature"
I want to have a connection with the music I listen to, and Folds' sarcastic approach to his music prevents that.
